CLASS 970 – TISSUE PAPER AS A PAINTING MEDIUM -  CLASS FILLED

 

Enjoy creating your own beautiful sunset “painting” in a different style, layering torn pieces of brightly colored tissue paper for a vibrant and textured piece of work. Artist DEBORAH TUCKER studied art at Eastern Michigan University and has taught this technique at Studio 12 in Avon for the past four
summers. All needed materials will be provided. Class size is limited to 8 and there is an additional fee of $5 for art supplies. Friday, Feb 16

 

CLASS 971 –THE ART OF BASKET WEAVING 

– Two Successive Nights

 

Basket weaving is a craft dating back thousands of years in human history, yet it is uncommon to find artists in this field today. KIM PRINCE and CAROL SWAN are notable exceptions! Through their business, Tasket-A-Basket, LLC, they weave varied and colorful creations that are both practical for daily use and works of art. Join them for two consecutive evenings to learn basic basket weaving techniques and create your own candy basket. Needed supplies will be furnished. Class size is limited to 20 and there is an additional fee of $15 to cover materials. Thursday and Friday, Feb 22 and 23
 

CLASS 972 – ARE YOU READY TO QUILT?

 

Have you thought for ages that quilting is pretty amazing? Here goes one of your excuses for not yet learning how. SANDY FEYRER and DEB HUNTON have a combined total of 46 years of quilting experience and would love to share it with you! You’ll pick up on the basics by actually creating your own table runner. Instruction will include accurate cutting, seam allowances, pressing, assembly, and “stitch in the ditch” quilting. You’ll be hooked! While all equipment and materials will be provided, please bring a sewing machine, cutting mat, and/or rotary cutter if you already have them. The class is limited to 8 people and will begin early, at 6:30 PM. Tuesday, Feb 20

 

CLASS 973 – CREATE A CLOTHESPIN WREATH

 

PAULA MYATT loves hand crafting and makes beautiful decorations for the home and table. For this class, she will provide instruction and materials for making a beautiful wreath out of – can you believe it? – clothespins! If you’re skeptical, just check out some of the examples on Pinterest – the possibilities are endless, cute and colorful! Paula will guide you in creating your own wreath, using paint or washi tape for brightening the clothespins, plus shells to add for a beach theme or flowers for a spring theme. Class size is limited to 12 and there is an additional $5 fee to cover materials, but Paula’s fun personality comes at no extra charge. Monday, Feb 26

 

CLASS 974 – SHARE YOUR LOVE WITH A VALENTINE CRAFT

 

Think back to some of the most precious messages of love you’ve received – odds are they were personalized just for you, maybe even made by hand. In this class, you’ll enjoy the fun of creating Valentine cards and favors for someone dear to your heart. SARAH DILLEY is a retired teacher and volunteer who loves crafting and card-making in her free time as her “joy and therapy.” Creating something unique and thoughtful for your loved ones will return twice the happiness to you! The class is limited to 10 students. Thursday, Feb 1

 

CLASS 975 – INTRODUCTION TO OIL PAINTING - CLASS FILLED

 

Quick, name your favorite painter! Many would say Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Mary Cassatt – all of whom are Impressionists. Artist BRAD PRICE offers this class as an introduction to painting in oil, in the style of the Impressionists. Brad was the Executive Chef at Elizabeth’s in Duck for 17 years, but randomly tried his hand at painting during one off-season to ward off the winter blahs. To his surprise,
he fell in love with it and is now able to devote full time to his passion. Join him in this class and see if it happens to you, too! All necessary materials are provided. Class size is limited to 10 and there is an additional fee of $5 to cover supplies. Friday, Feb 9

 

CLASS 976 – DARE TO PLAY WITH COLOR

 

If there’s anyone who knows how to have fun with color, it’s artist CAROLINA COTO! Her joyful, sometimes whimsical art creates a bright spot wherever it’s found. Since earning a BFA in her native Costa Rica, she has run Carolina Coto Art for 6 years. For this class, she plans some fun activities that will explore color relationships and palettes, encouraging confidence and freedom in artistic expression. All skill levels can learn and have fun, with the only “rule” being no stress or anxiety allowed! Basic materials will be provided and students will receive a list of simple supplies to bring to class with them. Class size is limited to 10 and there is an additional $20 fee for materials. CLASS 977 – MIXED MEDIA MADNESS

 

DONNA MORGAN is an artist, gifted teacher, and owner of Déjà New in Kitty Hawk. She always receives rave reviews for the various mixed media classes she leads. You don’t have to be officially “artistic” to join in – anyone will find it to be lots of fun and even relaxing. You may even discover, with Donna’s easygoing guidance, that you’re more creative than you thought! An additional fee of $5 will be collected to cover materials. Friday, Feb 16

 

Class 978 – STAINED GLASS – Two Successive Nights and 6PM START TIME  CLASS FILLED

 

SANDY BRIGGMAN has worked in stained glass for 20 years now, originally taught by local artists Ellinor and Bob Nick in Wanchese. Her beautiful pieces can be found all around the Outer Banks and even overseas. Sandy’s love of stained glass led her into teaching the craft herself, which she does on a weekly basis. In this After Dark class, students will learn the “foil” method, working with glass, grinders, foil, and solder to create their own stained glass sun catcher to take home after the two-night course. The class is limited to 8 students, beginning each of the two nights at 6 PM and lasting for three hours. There is an additional fee of $15. Thursday and Friday, Feb 22 and 23

 

CLASS 979 – WINE GLASS PAINTING

 

There’s something really special about hand painted wine glasses! GLEN BALDWIN has been a crafty gal for years, and last year began painting wine glasses, just for fun. Come learn the basics of doing it yourself, starting with a simple beach design. Once class is over, you’ll know how to paint more, either matching your first or using your own ideas. Please bring an apron, or wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on – just in case! Otherwise, Glen will supply everything needed. Class size is limited to 12 and there’s an additional $3 fee. CLASS 980 – BASIC KNITTED CABLES 

 

The name of her shop pretty much says it all: JEANNE SHRADER owns Knitting Addiction in Kitty Hawk. She’s been teaching knitting for over 20 years and is ready to take the mystery out of cable stitches in this class! Each student will make a cabled cup cozy. What should you bring to class with you? Just two things – a pair of knitting needles, size 7, and about 50 yards of worsted weight yarn. The class can accommodate 10 students. Wednesday, Feb 7

 

CLASS 981 – JOIN THE PAINTED ROCK CRAZE!

 

MARY MOYNAHAN and PAULA MYATT have backgrounds in the medical and business fields, respectively, but now in retirement there’s more time to nurture their creative sides. Neither has a PhD in Rock Painting – they just think it’s cool! And that’s half the fun – rock painting is for everyone, no experience required. Join them to create your own rock art with nature themes, hearts, geometrics and mandalas, inspirational quotes – the possibilities are endless. You’ll be proud to show off your work on your coffee table or in the garden – or share it by hiding it around the Outer Banks for some lucky person to find! An additional fee of $4 will cover supplies. Friday, Mar 2.
